Project steps
ACTION T1: International survey: wood and rubber recycling and recovery practices and legislation
The objective and integrated output of Action T1 is to obtain detailed information on the existing knowledge/technologies on wood and rubber recovering as well as on practical know-how and experience on recycled wood and rubber raw materials in the industrial sector. This information not only reveals optimum uses of recycled wood and rubber raw materials for added-value products but it strengthens the linkages among waste wood and rubber suppliers – users by a detailed analysis with overall project results.
ACTION T2: RTD on recovered wood
The objective and integrated output of Action T2 is to obtain detailed information on the recovered wood on European, national and regional level from a practical and technical point of view. Information on the use, availability and handling of recovered wood in the different regions in Europe will be obtained and disseminated amongst the stakeholders of the project.
ACTION T3: RTD on recovered rubber
The main objective and integrated output of Action T3 is to obtain detailed information on the recovered rubber from tyres on European level from a practical and technical point of view. Information on the use, availability, handling and legislations of waste rubber in the different regions in Europe will be obtained and disseminated amongst the stakeholders of the project.
ACTION T4: Development and testing of new composite
The objectives and integrated outputs of Action T4 are to utilise the recovered wood and tyre/rubber to develop a number of novel sustainable, viable, low cost composite products with good environmental profiles.
ACTION T5: Implementation and pilot experiences
The principle objectives of this action are to scale up the novel composites developed in Action 4 and make the composites readily attainable, i.e. commercial composite products and components made from recovered wood and rubber composites. The products will be tested and characterised following their mechanical and functional behaviour. The evaluation of the new wood rubber components will be done providing a list of advantages for the stakeholders why to choose for these materials in future applications.
ACTION T6: Life Cycle Analysis (LCA)
The main objective of T6 is to assess the decisive environmental and economical aspects associated with the knowledge on new wood-rubber composites deriving from the project compared with the traditional ones. Through determination of the total impact on the environment and all costs from manufacture to disposal the complete value-added chain is covered. The eco-efficiency aims to achieve a balance between environmental and economic factors. This means to manufacture cost-effective products with the smallest possible amount of raw materials and energy, and to minimize emissions.
ACTION T7: Dissemination and promotion
This action will disseminate the outcomes of the project on international and regional level. Different media will be used in order to reach the broadest possible public. The dissemination level will increase the bonds between the waste wood and rubber suppliers and provide the knowledge in industry about the use of both recycled wood and recycled rubber for producing this kind of composites. The action will raise the general public’s awareness of and increase its knowledge about the project and its potentials and benefits.
ACTION T8: Project management
The goal of this work package is to ensure the technical, organizational and financial success of the WOODRUB project.
